Cong demands JPC probe into Rafale deal

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, Dec 18 - The Congress today demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe into the Rafale scam and said that the Supreme Court is not the right forum to identify corruption as its bound by limits and said the apex Court should withdraw its earlier verdict.

Congress MP from Assam, Gaurav Gogoi countered the BJP which has hailed the Supreme Court verdict giving a clean chit to the Government saying a JPC is the most appropriate forum to probe such cases of corruption.

Supreme Court is not the appropriate forum to identify corruption and benefits given to crony capitalism. The Supreme Court is bound by limits as it cannot call upon officers and cannot go into details of policy decisions, he said.

Gogoi said that the Congress has never approached the Supreme Court on the Rafale deal and has always wanted a JPC. The Congress always said let there be an investigation by the JPC, Gogoi said.

These functions are not within the ambit of the Supreme Court. Supreme Court has said in its order that it cannot go into pricing details, he said. The Congress leader further demanded that the Supreme Court should withdraw its earlier decision on the Rafale deal.

The Supreme Court should withdraw its judgment because of false witness. The Supreme Court should penalize the BJP Government for trying to lie and mislead the Supreme Court and initiate action of contempt and perjury, Gogoi said.

He said that the BJP-led Government has lied before the Supreme Court by stating that the CAG report has been compiled and submitted to the Public Accounts Committee, which is a lie.
