Cong confident of winning Mizoram polls

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Oct 10 - The Congress that has been in power in Mizoram for two consecutive terms is confident of making it a hattrick when the State goes to the polls on November 28.

Unfazed by the exodus of two senior MLAs to the rival Mizo National Front, AICC general secretary in-charge of the North East Luizinho Faleiro said the exit of two senior Congress MLAs and a few of their supporters would not affect the party as hundreds of others are joining the Congress.

Party vice president and former Home Minister R Lalzirliana was recently expelled from the party, and will now contest from his home constituency, Tawi, on an MNF ticket. Another sitting Congress legislator and former minister Lalrinliana Sailo also resigned from the party and joined the MNF. He is likely to contest from the Chalfilh constituency as the MNF nominee.

With 32 MLAs, I am confident that we will win a comfortable majority to form the next Government for the third consecutive term as the people of Mizoram have not lost faith in the leadership of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, Faleiro said.

Faleiro added that the Congress would field as many young faces as possible in the forthcoming elections. At least 40 percent of the young candidates will be below the age of 40, he said.
