Cong chief arriving Manipur today for LS poll campaign

IMPHAL, March 18 - All has been set for the AICC president Rahul Gandhi�s two-day visit to Manipur for the Lok Sabha poll campaign.

Party sources here said that the AICC chief will be arriving here on Tuesday afternoon and address a public meeting the following day at Hapta Kangejibung at Palace Gate in Imphal East district.

Soon after, Rahul Gandhi will be leaving for Agartala, sources said.

Congress Legislature Party leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi and Congress Working Committee member and MPCC President Gaikhangam are also returned back from national capital after attending the meeting with AICC leaders for finalising the party candidates for the Lok Sabha polls.

Though the Congress is yet to announce the names of its candidates for the Lok Sabha polls which are scheduled to be held here on April 11 and 18 next, party sources said the candidates names will be announced on or before March 25 and 26, the last dates of filing of nomination papers.

Seven candidates have applied for the party ticket in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency, while nine others have sought the party ticket for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency. The sitting MP (outer Manipur constituency) Thangso Baite is missing among the party ticket seekers.

The contenders to the Congress ticket in Inner Manipur include sitting MP Dr T Meinya and former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore.

The ruling BJP is also yet to announce the names of its candidates till date.
