Cong candidate missing from Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 23 � Under mysterious circumstances, one Congress candidate has been missing since last evening from his hotel room here. According to party sources, Purna Chandra Basumatary, who got the Congress ticket from No. 11 Bonkhungri BTC constituency in Kokrajhar district was not found for filing nomination today.

Police is investigating to find out the whereabouts of the candidate. Basumatary�s nomination paper and relevent documents were found in the hotel room from where he allegedly went missing.

Meanwhile, Jayanti Das, general secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has expressed deep concern over the matter and called for speedy investigation into the mysterious disappearance of the candidate.

On the other hand, as many as 69 candidates from different political parties, including Independents, have filed nominations for 12 seats in Kokrajhar district. As many as 17 candidates filed nominations for the Fakiragram BTC constituency which is the highest number of contestants for a seat.

Significantly, Rabiram Narzary, president of BPPF, filed his nomination from two seats at Parbatjhora and Salakati constituencies. In Debargaon seat, three contestants, including Hagrama Mohilary, chief of BTC and BPF supremo, filed his nomination as a result of which no candidate is going to win uncontested on the final day of filing nominations.
