Cong blames Centre for steep rise in prices

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 2 - The taxes levied by the Central government at different levels have been causing the rise in the prices of the petroleum products in the country despite the rapid fall in the prices of such items, alleged the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) here today.

In a statement this evening, APCC spokesman Rhituparna Konwar said that because of the taxes imposed by the Central government, the prices of the non-subsidised LPG cylinders have now gone up by Rs 18 per cylinder, kerosene by Rs 3 per litre and petrol by Rs 1.06 and diesel by Rs 2.94 per litre. Again, the Aviation Turbine Fuel price is also up by Rs 627 per kilolitre.

The prices of essential items have been shooting up ever since the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government came to power at the Centre, the APCC spokesman said. This is making life miserable for the people of the country. The latest hike effected by the Central government in the prices of the petroleum products is adding to the miseries of the common people, he added.

He urged the State leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to register their protest against the rise in the prices of essential items and petroleum products.
