Cong, BJP to blame for price rise: AIUDF

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 9 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has blamed both the Congress and the BJP for the recent spurt in prices of essential commodities.

Price rise has taken place due to donations secured by both the BJP and the Congress in the run-up to the Assembly polls, AIUDF chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal today said in a statement.

He said that both the Congress and the BJP are now trying to pin the blame on each other.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has pointed fingers at the BJP and blamed the party for taking huge donations for election expenditure from the trader community. Similar allegations have been levelled by the BJP against the Congress. This proves that both the BJP and Congress took crores of rupees from the business community during the election period. The traders have now increased prices of commodities with blessings of both these parties, Ajmal said.

He said that both the BJP-led NDA regime at the Centre and the Congress government in the State have failed to take any steps to alleviate the problem of price rise which has brought misery to the common man.

BJP and Congress are not on the side of the common masses. They do not dare to raise their voices in the interest of common citizens as they serve the big business community, Ajmal said, adding that the food and civil supply department should play a more proactive role.
