Cong bid to counter BJP in State

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Oct 26 - In the face of the BJP indulging in aggressive posturing in Assam ahead of the Assembly polls, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has convened a coordination committee meeting on October 28 to firm up a strategy for the polls.

The meeting, to be attended by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, PCC president Anjan Dutta and chairman and vice chairman of various committees, is likely to be a brain storming session. The meeting would also be joined by Akon Bora and Diganta Chowdhury as special invitees, said sources.

The Congress party is also likely to adopt an offensive posture in the face of the tough challenge posed by the BJP. Despite loss of at least 10 MLAs and a troubleshooter like Himanta Biswa Sarma, the party is likely to work out a strategy to consolidate its minority tea belt support base, said sources.
