Cong alleges saffronization

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - The Congress boycotted the customary photo session with the Governor and a tea party on the first day of the Assembly Budget session today, alleging saffronization of the Assembly premises in the form of saffron and green tent clothes at the photo shoot and tea party venues.

The issue cropped up on the floor of the House, when Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami invited all members to join for the tea after the Governors speech was over, amid slogan shouting by the Opposition.

The Congress MLAs alleged that the choice of colour to decorate the premises reflected the colours of a particular political party and was surely an attempt to saffronize the Assembly events.

Attempting reconciliation, the Speaker said as the matter came to his notice through the media, he immediately asked for removing the clothes, as nobodys sentiments should be hurt due to this.

The Opposition, however, was adamant that it was a deliberate attempt to put such colours. Congress MLAs, while demanding an inquiry into the matter, said unless a probe is ordered, they would boycott the photo and tea sessions.
