Cong, AIUDF indulging in vote bank politics: Nadda

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - Accusing the opposition Congress and AIUDF of indulging in divisive and vote bank politics, BJP national president JP Nadda today exuded confidence about the saffron partys prospects in next years Assam Assembly elections.

Addressing the inaugural meeting of the office-bearers of State BJPs newly constituted committee by video conference from New Delhi, Nadda also commended the Sarbananda Sonowal-led governments efforts on the twin front of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Assam floods.

The BJP-led government in Assam has performed very well during the last four years. I am confident that people of Assam will give us the opportunity to serve them for another term, Nadda said.

The Congress party is up to its old mischief. The Congress and the AIUDF are together involved in communal, divisive and vote bank politics. But people of Assam only want development. And the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government has tried its best to bring development to the State during last four years, he said.

While Nadda addressed the meeting from New Delhi, Sonowal along with NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and others took part in it at the partys Assam unit headquarters at Hengrabari here.

Nadda said that BJPs aim is to secure more seats as well as to increase its vote share in Assam during the 2021 Assembly elections in comparison with the partys 2016 tally.

And for that we have to connect with all segments of society. We have to ensure that the unique problems and issues faced by each segment of society are tackled, he said.

The BJP national president said that Assam had to face the twin menace of the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating floods so far during 2020. I must appreciate the efforts of the Sonowal government in this regard. The brilliant management of both the pandemic and the floods is noticeable, he said.

The BJP chief termed 2020 as a challenging year for the entire world. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt across the globe. In India, most of the political parties went into the lockdown mode as soon as the national lockdown was announced. But the BJP continued its activities to serve the people during this critical period, Nadda said.

Nadda claimed that the decision of Prime Minister Modi to impose the nationwide lockdown in late March was a bold and timely action. He said that schemes intended for various sections, including BPL segment, women, divyangs, vendors and farmers, have benefitted crores of Indians and helped them in the time of the economic crisis brought by the pandemic.

Nadda also called upon Sonowal to focus on how Assam can benefit from various schemes launched by the Centre in this regard.
