NAGAON, March 25 - The AGP-BJP alliance supported candidate and younger brother of State Cabinet minister Keshab Mahanta, the former leader of students organisation of the State, Mani Madhav Mahanta today filed his nomination papers with the Assistant Returning Officer Hemanta Bhuyan for Kaliabor parliamentary constituency.

On the last day of submission of the nomination papers for the first phrase, the alliance-supported candidate, Mahanta in a long procession along with thousands of supporters and leaders of the alliance parties came to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon and filed his nomination papers. AGP president and State minister Atul Bora, Mahantas brother, minister Keshab Mahanta, BJP state president Ranjit Kumar Dass, MLA of Batradrova, Angoorlata Deka, distinct AGP president, Atul Medhi and other party leaders accompanied Mani Madhav Mahanta during his submission of nomination papers.

In an interaction with local media persons here right after filing the nomination papers, Mahanta said that any kind of understanding either open or secret between Opposition Congress and AIUDF could not stop him this time in Kaliabor as he is nominated by the biggest alliance parties represented by people of all tribes, castes, communities and religions of the constituency.

On the other hand, the State BJP president, Ranjit Kumar Dass said that BJP often speaks about the nexus between Congress and AIUDF which was sometimes open and sometimes secret. But this time everything is open. Hence the people who consider it to be a glory to be termed as the indigenous people of the state as well as the country will definitely exercise their franchise in favour of the BJP and its allies. If they do not feel proud of being the indigenous people, then they will favour the Congress, Dass added.

On the last day of submission of nominations for the first phrase, a total of five candidates filed their nomination papers for Kaliabor parliamentary constituency and one candidate for Nagaon parliamentary constituency. They are Diganta Kr Saikia (Bharat Nirman Party), Abdul Aziz (NPP), Harikot Islam Bhuyan (Asom Jana Morcha) and independent candidate Jiten Gogoi.
