Cong accepts Bjps challenge to debate on Ne development

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, June 5 - Congress has accepted the challenge of the BJP to have a debate on the development of North East.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson and MP from Kaliabor in Assam, Gaurav Gogoi said here recently that he is willing to take on BJP to have a debate on the issue.

Gogoi wanted the debate after BJP National Spokesperson Nalin Kohli yesterday said that he is willing to debate with Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma or anyone in Congress on the subject of development and the notification on regulation of cattle trade in markets.

Gogoi said BJP has done nothing for the North Eastern States, saying the special category status of NE States was done away with by the BJP Government and even 90 per cent funding for these States.

The Congress leader further accused the BJP of inaugurating those projects in the region which were sanctioned and funded by UPA Government.

They are only imposing their Hindutva culture on North East and if BJP wants to do so they should say it openly, he said. He further accused BJP of imposing RSS culture in Meghalaya while expressing confidence that the people of Meghalaya would vote against the culture of hatred in the 2018 Assembly elections in the State.

Slamming the BJP-led NDA Government at Centre over the notification on cow slaughter, he said, the party was working on three Ds Divide, Destroy and Disrupt.

Gogoi accused the BJP of dividing people on food and religion, saying the notification on cow slaughter has affected people and cow politics has led to beating and even lynching of people in the country.

He alleged that BJP is lying to the people of Meghalaya on the notification and the party is doing politics with the people of the State over beef.

Instead of giving jobs, youths are being encouraged to become Gaurakshaks, Gogoi said, adding, the BJP Government cares only for corporate bodies rather than farmers and is destroying the country by using tax payers money for their advertisements and marketing in media.
