GUWAHATI, Aug 16 Something is brewing in Dispur. While sources in Dispur claimed that Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has offered to resign, the Minister said that he could not confirm the reports.

Sources in Dispur claimed that the Minister has submitted his resignation letter to Governor J B Patnaik. He has also sought to resign from the post of an MLA and submitted his resignation letter in this connection to the Speaker of the State Assembly.

However, when asked by this newspaper to clarify his position this afternoon, the succinct reply of the Minister was -I cannot confirm now.

Sources in Dispur told this newspaper that though the Minister should have sent his letter of resignation from the Ministry to the Chief Minister, he has sent only a copy of his letter on the issue, which was addressed to the Governor, to the Chief Minister.

Again, though the resignation letter of the Minister from the Assembly membership should have been written in his own handunder hand as per rule 186 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business to the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the Minister got the letter typed.

These technical flaws have made the two letters of the Minister invalid. Moreover, the Chief Minister has ignored the matter, sources said.
