GUWAHATI, March 25 - Brother of late student leader Saurabh Bora, who was allegedly assassinated by a group of ULFA gunmen on May 27, 1986, on the Dibrugarh University campus, today regretted that the confession of ULFA C-in-C Paresh Asom in this connection came about three decades after the tragic incident, which took away the life of a promising student leader.
It needs mention here that according to a report published in a section of the media, Paresh Asom yesterday claimed that Saurabh Bora was assassinated by a group of ULFA gunmen at the behest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, who subsequently rose to the post of All Assam Students Union (AASU) president.
Sapon Bora, younger brother of Saurabh Bora, today said that the statement of Paresh Asom should have come immediately after the incident of Saurabhs killing. It would have provided solace to his mother, who died with the grief of her sons killers remaining unpunished.
The family of Saurabh Bora shifted to Dangdhara of Titabor in 1962 from the Ahatguri Mouza of Majuli in the face of erosion by the Brahmaputra. Saurabhs paternal uncle Dr Kumud Bora is an internationally renowned scientist and the people of Majuli still remember him with awe, said Sapon Bora, and made an appeal to give their verdict against those who were involved in the killing of Saurabh Bora and the like.
