Conference on traditional health practices in NE

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 - NIPER Guwahati recently conducted a national scientific conference on �Ethno-medicine & traditional health practices in the North East region of India� in the city in association with the Society for Ethno-pharmacology.

A total of 198 delegates from eight states of the north-eastern region along with delegates from other parts of the country attended the conference.

Director of NIPER Guwahati Dr USN Murty stressed the need for exploring the plant biosphere available in the region for making potential commercial products for sustainable development of the north-eastern states.

The chief guest, Dr GN Qazi, Director General, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences, along with several distinguished speakers and scientific advisers from academia attended the conference.

Dr Pulok K Mukherjee, Secretary, Society for Ethno-pharmacology, apprised the gathering about frontiers in ethno-pharmacology, ethno-medicine and explained the importance of preserving the local health tradition that is marketed following proper scientific validation.
