By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 25 - The Bodoland Peoples Party (BPF) today organised a rally in Kokrajhar town demanding that the BTC elections be held before October 27 next and that the Governors Rule at BTC should not be extended any further.

The rally which began from the BPFs central office ended at the Deputy Commissioners office at Kokrajhar.

The rally was led by BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary. Braving heavy rains, many top BPF leaders also joined the rally with banners and posters. Later, the BPF also submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner and the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar.

Talking to mediapersons, BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary said that COVID-19 pandemic cannot be a valid ground for deferring or postponing the BTC general elections when the date of polling of 3,848 gram panchayats as well as zila parishad election in Rajasthan has been announced recently. He further said that if the partys request is not acceded to, it will sit on a hunger strike and take up other means of democratic protest.

He also urged the State Election Commission and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to conduct the council elections within October 27 in the greater interest of the people of this region. At the same time, Mohilary also stressed that Governors rule in BTC should end and not extended.

Due to the non-existence of a people government for a long period, the general people of the BTC have been suffering a lot on all fronts and the developmental works of the region have stopped, he said. At the same time, he also alleged that some vested interests may be hatching a political conspiracy in this regard.
