Condolences continue to pour in for Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Nov 24 - Condolence messages continue to pour in from across the State mourning the death of three-time Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, with politicians of different parties and leading organisations recalling the services of the Congress stalwart, who succumbed to post-COVID complications on Monday evening.

Doomdooma: The people of Tinsukia district joined the rest of the State in mourning the demise Tarun Gogoi. Durga Bhumij, MLA of Doomdooma LAC, in his condolence message said the Congress party has lost its guardian. He conveyed deep condolences to the members of the bereaved family. Rupesh Gowala, general secretary of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), also mourned the death of the veteran politician. In a condolence message, Gowala termed the death as an irreparable loss to the nation. The Tinsukia District Congress Committee (TDCC) also condoled the death of Tarun Gogoi. Today, the TDCC leaders and party activists paid tributes at the portrait of their beloved leader at Rajiv Bhawan.

The Kakopothar Block Congress Committee also deeply mourned the death.

Sivasagar: The Sivasagar District Congress Committee organised a condolence meeting this morning at Rajiv Bhawan, in which senior leaders of the party recalled the contributions of Tarun Gogoi towards the State as well as the Congress party.

The meeting was attended by president (in-charge), Lakhi Handique, vice presidents Pramir Gogoi and Anowar Hussain. Pramir Gogoi described the former Chief Minister as an architect of modern Assam.

Aikya Sena Asom also paid rich tributes to Tarun Gogoi and conveyed sympathies to the members of the bereaved family.

Addressing a largely attended meeting, Faridul Islam Hazarika, secretary, Aaikya Sena Asom, said Gogoi was instrumental in bringing development to the State.

Dergaon: The death of the former Chief Minister was widely mourned in Dergaon, too. Social worker Atul Goswami, in his condolence message, said that Gogoi dedicated his life for the betterment of the State.

�Gogoi had close links with the grassroot level workers, due to which he could rule the State for 15 years. We have lost a seasoned politician,� said educationist Jatindra Nath Neog. The Dergaon Government Pensioners� Association, Dergaon Journalists� Association, Greater Dergaon Consumer Awareness Forum and Proficient Career Counselling also mourned the demise of the Congress veteran.

Jamagurihat: The Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha also condoled the death of Tarun Gogoi. In a condolence message, Durga Khatiwora and Rudra Baral, president and secretary of the literary body respectively, conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family.

North Lakhimpur: People from all walks of life expressed their profound grief at the passing away of the veteran politician, who also had a family link in North Lakhimpur. The leaders of political parties and organizations paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister.

Bhupen Bora, general secretary of AICC, said that the demise of the former Chief Minister is a great loss to the Congress and the State as well, and he will be remembered for reviving the State�s economy.

The Lakhimpur District Congress Committee also deeply mourned the death. President of the Committee Joy Prakash Das, in his massage, appealed to the Congress members to follow the path of Tarun Gogoi.

The All Assam Students� Union, Lakhimpur unit, former MLA Bharat Narah and entrepreneur Uday Sankar Hazarika also condoled the death.

Dhubri: Rich tributes were paid to Tarun Gogoi by the Dhubri District Congress Committee. A meeting was held at Rajiv Bhawan wherein several senior leaders of the party recalled the contributions of Gogoi.

Uttam Sarkar, president of the Dhubri District Congress Committee, spoke briefly on the life of Tarun Gogoi and appealed to the party workers to work hard to give a new momentum to the Congress party.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri units of the BJP, the AGP and the AIUDF have also condoled the death of the senior Congress leader.

Gossaigaon: The Gossaigaon units of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, the All Assam Students� Union and the All Minority Students� Union, besides the Gossaigaon Press Club, also mourned the death of the Congress stalwart. In their messages, the leaders of these organisations said that Gogoi played an active role in cementing the relations among different communities.
