Besides, Dr Sarma formally inaugurated 31 high mass lights in the town and a deep draining system from the Dhing gate area to the Sonai stream, costing around of Rs 9 crore, following which the Minister visited Nagaon Binapani Natya Mandir where he offered his prayers to Goddess Durga.

It may be mentioned here that the bridge which was inaugurated today has been lying useless for around three decades due to a land dispute. The construction of the bridge was started because of special initiatives taken by local MLA Rupak Sarma. Earlier, the Minister went to Amulapatty Natya Mandir and took part in the celebrations of the 125th foundation day of the Mandir. Addressing the gathering, Dr Sarma said more than 500 years ago, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva built the Assamese nationalism. He was the founder of Nava Vaishnava and also the forerunner of Assamese culture as well as Assamese civilization, Dr Sarma added.

He said Sankaradeva tried to create loyalty towards Lord Krishna through Bhagawat Prem among the people from the Vaishnavite faith.

In almost all the programmes, Dr Sarma was accompanied by State Urban Development Minister Pijush Hazarika, local MLA Rupak Sarma, Raha MLA Dimbeswar Das and other party leaders from the district.
