Concluding function of GLCC silver jubilee

BARPETA, Jan 27 - The concluding function of the year-long silver jubilee celebration of GLC College, Barpetaroad in Barpeta district will be held with a three-day-long programme from tomorrow.

The programme will begin with the hoisting of the college flag by Jagannath Barman, principal of the college followed by hoisting of the silver jubilee flag by Dr Kiran Chandra Bayan, president of the celebration committee at 9 am tomorrow. Professor Jagadish Chandra Sarma and a former vice-principal of the college, Dilip Sarma will open the gates of the book fair and exhibition respectively.

An open meeting to be held at 1 pm that day will be chaired by Dr Bijan Kunu, working president of the silver jubilee celebration committee. BTAD chief Hagrama Mohilary will attend the meeting as the chief guest. Former parliamentarians David Ledger and Uddhab Barman will also attend the meet as distinguished guests. The souvenir to be published on this occasion will be formally released by Dr Kandarpa Das, Director, IDOL, Gauhati University.

A cultural procession will be flagged off by the Burha Satriya of Barpeta Satra on January 29 morning. A special conglomeration of the alumni will also be held in the afternoon that day.

A seminar on �Global warming and its impact on lives� will be held on January 30. Another open meeting to be held that day will be attended by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as the chief guest. Ranjit Kumar Das, MLA, Sarbhog, Hemen Das, ex-MLA , writer-thinker Bijanlal Choudhury and social worker G L Agarwala will attend the meet as distinguished guests. Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Professor, Department of Political Science, Gauhati University will also attend the meet as an appointed speaker.
