Concern over reports on fundamentalists

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 � A meeting of the Sambandhita Yubatirtha Asam, the youth wing of Asam Satra Mahasabha, was held at the Paltan Bazar Namghar here this afternoon.

The newly-elected office-bearers of the Yubatirtha including president Rubul Kumar Mahanta, executive president Dr Alekhya Baruah and secretary Apurba Adhikary took the oath in presence of Asam Satra Mahasabha publicity secretary Kusum Kumar Mahanta who read out the pledge.

Expressing concern over reports of fundamentalist groups trying to create trouble in the State and the region and the alleged link of AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal, the Yabatirtha fervently urged upon the Central and State government to monitor the activities of AIUDF and Ajmal with a sense of urgency and punish the guilty, if proved, according to the law of the country.

It urged upon the government to strengthen the security scenario in the sensitive lower Assam areas by deploying adequate number of army and CRPF.

The Yubatirtha also adopted a resolution to immediately take steps against the theft cases in Satras and namghars.
