Concern over growing crimes against women

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, May 2 A delegation of Women Action for Development (WAD), a Manipur-based NGO and its alliance members of other civil societies met the State Governor seeking his intervention into the increasing crimes against women and children.

They sought his special attention to two particular cases of rape and murder of one minor child namely Laishram Shumila and rape of a 21 year-old girl, a press release here said.

The said two cases have not been properly and thoroughly investigated by the concerned police stations of Kumbi and Bishnupur thereby failing to arrest the perpetrators of the crime, WAD Secretary Mangsatabam Sobita said.

The Governor has given the assurance that needful action will be taken and special attention will also be paid to complete the investigation as soon as possible, besides penalising the culprits as per the rule of law, she added.

According to WAD, a total of about 22 women were reported missing in Manipur till April 17 this year against the missing report of about 84 women last year.
