Concern over Chinese dams

DIBRUGARH, Sept 17 � A section of the intellectual community under the banner of Sanjibani Sammittee here have expressed grave concern over the �defence implications� of alleged big dams constructed by the Chinese on the upper portion of the Brahmaputra in Tibet.

A meeting presided over by Dr Madan Mohan Goswami, held at Sankardev Vidya Niketan here on September 11 discussed threadbare the defence implications of the dam and collectively urged the Central government and defence authorities to initiate necessary measures to counter the destructive designs of the Chinese authorities.

The meeting was held in observance of the silver jubilee of the socio-cultural organisation �Sanjibani Sammittee�, a release stated. Several speakers including Dr Biswajit Baruah, Professor of Dibrugarh University, Sarat Borkakoti, retired lecturer of Dibru College, Durlov Sarma, an educationist, Dr MM Goswami, Mahabir Agarwalla, advocate and Dr Lalit Goswami participated in the discusion.
