GUWAHATI, March 8 - Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) Rihon Daimary today unveiled the �Composite Water Supply Scheme for Sustainability and Quality Scheme in Chandrapur and Dimoria Development Blocks� at Tatimara village, Chandrapur on the outskirts of the city.
The scheme has been launched under the Neer Nirmal Pariyojana, which is a joint project of the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Government of Assam to improve piped water coverage and sanitation services in rural areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Daimary said that through implementation of the scheme, which is aided by the World Bank, the people of Chandrapur and Dimoria blocks would get arsenic-free drinking water.
The objective of the Neer Nirmal Pariyojana project is to provide 24x7 metered water supply to every household under the selected gaon panchayats in the project districts.
The project aims to cover about 1.16 lakh households in Batch-1 districts Jorhat, Hailakandi and Kamrup (Metro) and about 1.17 households in Batch-2 districts including Sivasagar, Morigaon and Bongaigaon through six large �multi village� schemes.
