Complaint to TRAI over poor Reliance service

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 17 - The Consumers Legal Protection Forum has lodged a complaint with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against the poor functioning of Reliance mobile phone and internet service in Assam.

The Forum has also demanded adequate compensation for the consumers who have borne the brunt of the deficiency in service.

It has insisted that the TRAI hold Reliance Telecom liable for their interrupted network service and for any loss/damage suffered by the consumers for the deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

In the complaint letter, advocate Ajoy Hazarika, secretary, Consumers Legal Protection Forum, Assam and governing council member, Consumer Coordination Council, New Delhi and advocate Subhash Mohan Sarma, administrator, Consumers Legal Protection Forum, Assam, alleged that poor functioning of Reliance mobile phone and internet service has drawn flak from harrowed consumers for the last few months in Assam.

While poor network has been a persistent irritant with Reliance customers, matters have worsened in the past week. Most of the cell phones do not have incoming calls and message services for over a week now, said Hazarika, adding that consumers have lodged complaints on several occasions, but to no avail.

Hazarika mentioned that cell phones apart, Reliance internet services have also been pathetic for several months in the State. It is Reliance Telecoms prime duty to provide the consumers with adequate and uninterrupted service. Reliance Telecom is liable to pay compensation for any defect and deficiency of service committed by them. It has been observed that the service provider failed to provide service, causing immense trouble to the consumers, asserted Hazarika.

For the last several days, consumers of Reliance Telecom Service have been facing tremendous network problems and most of the time network is not available at all.
