GUWAHATI, Oct 18 � Dr Bhupen Hazarika: Ek Kimbandanti, a compilation of the English versions and summary of around 200 songs and poems of the legendary musician, was released at a solemn function by the Pro Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury in the Noonmati premises of the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay here yesterday. The book also contains select texts of Dr Hazarika�s writings in prose.
According to a press release here, the compilation has been edited by a board of editors comprising Basanta Deka, Nirendra Nath Thakuria, Kiran Deka, Chandana Mahanta and Saurabh Deka. Releasing the book, published by the city-based nascent publishing firm Orchid Prakashan, Prof Choudhury described it as a great contribution to the nation. The entire nation would remain obliged to the publishers of this book, he asserted.
He lauded the effort of the publishers to project Dr Hazarika�s creations in the world assembly of the humanity.
About 150 select songs of Dr Hazarika have been translated into English by Dhirendra Nath Bezboruah, Upendranath Sarma, Arup Kumar Dutta, Pradip Acharya, Nirendranath Thakuria, Krishna Dulal Barua, Dibyaranjan Khataniar, Suranjana Barua and Kiran Deka. Bhupati Kumar Das rendered about 20 poems of Dr Hazarika into English and the English summary of about 20 long songs of Dr Hazarika has been written by Gita Barua.
Rong Bong Terang, Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, Bhupati Kumar Das, Nripen Dutta Barua, Surya Goswami and Kamal Kataki have presented some events of Dr Hazarika�s life in the form of articles.
