Compensation demanded for accident victim

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 26 - Family members of Chandana Kalita, the 24-year-old girl who was shifted to a private hospital after a road mishap involving a city bus on Tuesday, have demanded adequate compensation so that her medical expenses can be met.

Chandana, who runs a beauty parlour in the Chandmari area, met with the accident on Tuesday morning and is still critical.

Chandanas aggrieved father, Anil Kalita said, I want justice for my daughter. The bus driver involved in the accident must be brought to book and at least the medical expenses should be borne by the bus owner. We are in a state of shock.

We will need a huge amount of money to meet the medical expenses. We do not know where to go. How can someone drive so recklessly? Who will take responsibility of the accident that has shattered our lives? Doctors say that it will take time for Chandana to recover, Kalita said. Chandana was riding on a two-wheeler along with her brother when the incident took place.

Doctors attending on her at the GNRC Hospitals here said that Chandanas right leg was operated upon and that she is still in the intensive care unit of the hospital. Meanwhile, the police said that they were searching for the driver.
