Commuters suffer due to incomplete Kahilipara road

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - The residents of Jyoti Path in Kahilipara area and motorists using the road have to face hardships regularly as the work initiated for its improvement has been left incomplete. The work on the road connecting Journalist Colony and the Kahilipara Post Office was taken up by the PWD (Roads) last year.

Arun Saikia, a resident of the area, said laying of ICBP (interlocking concrete block pavement) on a small stretch of the road is yet to be completed. Due to the incomplete portion of the road, residents and motorists using the road face tremendous inconvenience every day. The condition is miserable. The ICBP laying work has not yet been completed despite repeated requests, Saikia said.

Laying of ICBP was carried out last year, but a portion of the road measuring nearly 10 feet remains incomplete. The blocks are lying on the roadside causing much inconvenience to commuters, especially because there are grocery shops on both sides of the road, he added.

Rains worsen the road condition in the area. Waterlogging occurs even when there is a brief shower. There are no roadside drains as well. Women coming to the grocery shops suffer even more, Nabajit Goswami, another resident, said, adding We urge the authorities to complete the work immediately.
