Community pond inaugurated in Goalpara

GOALPARA, May 15 � The marshy land, known as Tiapara Paglijhora Ledema Pukhuri in Tiapara village area situated on the foot of the Paglijhora Tiapara Pahar, was recently transformed into a valuable and attractive community income-generating asset by the local denizens, by digging a 3.5 hectare pond under the Chief Minister�s dream project Swargadeo Rudra Singha Adarsha Pukhuri under the MNREGA scheme at the cost of Rs 10 lakh. The place is just 1 km on the southern side connected by Hatigaon PWD road from Bolbola on NH37 under Kalpanichandamari GP of Balijana Development Block.

Inaugurating the project recently in the presence of the Project Director, DRDA Khanindra Choudhury, other senior officials and a large public gathering, Deputy Commissioner JVN Subramanyam lavishly praised the efforts of the people as well as the DRDA officials for making a very attractive tank with a raised embankment under the project, against picturesque settings. He said that it was a pioneering effort and expressed his surprise that such an eye catching project with huge income generating potential could be constructed with such a small amount of money. He also said that the site could be transformed into an attractive tourist /picnic spot and urged the people to work on exploiting such a potential in the near future. The Project Director, DRDA, Khanindra Choudhury appreciated the overall outcome of the CM�s dream project and praised the sincere efforts of the people and quality of work done under the MNREGA scheme.

The BDO, Balijana Development Block Abdul Majid said that the Tiapara Paglijhora Ledema Pukhuri was built with an estimated amount of Rs 10 lakh under MNREGA scheme of DRDA with a total of 5,312 mandays, out of which only payments were made for 1686 mandays while Rs 1,12,896 out of the total amount was spent on purchasing materials. He also praised the efforts of the local people and the PRI members.

Meanwhile, talking to this correspondent, Anchalik Panchayat member Prellitha Marak, who was instrumental in taking the initiative since the day of work on the project began, thanked all the Government officials and the people for extending their cooperation and support for seeing the project through. She said that people of the area have been inspired by such developmental projects which have opened up wide opportunities for tourism and other income generating avenues in the area. Meanwhile, one quintal of fish and 100 ducks were released into the tank by the Deputy Commissioner at the time of inauguration.
