TEZPUR, March 18 - Urging the common civil society to work for the establishment of peace in the society, noted artiste Sudakshina Sharma said at the Tezpur University here that peace is possible only through borgeet and spirituality. Attending an exclusive interaction session on the issue �Kirtan Dasam Naamghosa houk amar shourya� organised by the Centre for Assamese Studies, TU at its meeting hall on Thursday, the noted artist said that Tezpur was the centre of culture and remembered cultural legends Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Natasurya Phani Sharma.
Sharing her views on how she was influenced in her life by the cultural icons of the State, she said that though she doyens like Jyoti-Bishnu, Phani Sharma and Dilip Sharma had influenced, her brother Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s influence on her cultural life was more. Replying to a query regarding the degradation in the cultural world of the State, she said that because of globalisation and blind imitation, the cultural arena of the State is facing a tough challenge at the present moment. �Our language and culture itself is an unbeatable one, yet we blindly follow the �bad sides� of the other�s culture. We will have to be sincere in delving deep into our culture and heritage, then only besides our culture and heritage, our dignity will be saved,� she said.
The function conducted by HoD, Centre for Assamese Studies, TU, Prof Ranjit Deva Goswami was graced by Prof Madan Sharma, Prof Chandan Sharma, Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharya, Pallab Bhattacharya, president, Sonitpur Silpi Samaj, Birendra Kr Bora, secretary, Tezpur Sahitya Chora, Akshyay Kumar Misra, noted litterateur and Manik Bora among others.
