Common facility centre opened

GUWAHATI, April 30 - Bishnu Kamal Bora, Director, Handloom & Textiles, Government of Assam today inaugurated a common facility centre (CFC) under the SFURTI (Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries) project.

The inaugural event was held at Gosaihat, Mirza in the presence of Dr Abhijit Sharma, Director IIE, Guwahati; Manoj Kumar Das, former Director, IIE, Guwahati; Prof Kanak Haloi; Siddhartha Tyagi, Assistant Director, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and Bhaskar Baruah, Project Officer (NER), EPCH.

Delivering the welcome address, Banajit Talukdar, Chairman, Integrated Rural Artisans Development Organisation (IRADO) said that the Ministry of MSME, Govt of India had sanctioned the project SFURTI, while IRADO is the implementing agency and IIE the nodal agency. EPCH is providing technical support to the project. Bora, in his speech, spoke about the cluster development programmes taken up by the Department of Handloom & Textiles in Assam. He also stressed the need for increasing the production base and developing new designs keeping in view the market trend.

Dr Sharma appreciated the efforts of IRADO in setting up the CFC and assured that as the nodal agency IIE would provide necessary support for development of the cluster.
