AGARTALA, Sept 21 - The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended to the Government to appoint Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi, the seniormost judge of the Gujarat High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
The Collegium made the recommendation since the incumbent Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, Sanjay Karol, has been transferred to the Jharkhand High Court.
The recommendation for Justice Kureshi�s appointment as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court is likely to be accepted by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice. Earlier, the Collegium had recommended Kureshi�s appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, but the Centre did not agree to it and asked the Collegium to reconsider the proposal.
As a result, the Collegium modified its earlier recommendation.
