GUWAHATI, Feb 16 - The authority of Icon Commerce College, a private educational institution located at Rajgarh here, today suspended one of its teachers Papri Banerjee for posting an objectionable statement on Facebook over the Pulwama terror attack.
According to Dr Nilanjan Bhattacharjee, in-charge principal of the institution, the college authority decided to suspended Banerjee, a teacher of the English department, for an indefinite period and serve a show-cause notice, when the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police came to the college premises to interrogate her this morning.
The Facebook post, posted yesterday, which has since been deleted, stated, 45 brave young men were killed yesterday This was not war They didnt get the opportunity to fight back This was cowardice of the highest order It would break the heart of any Indian But But But What have not security forces done in the valley!... You rape their women You maim and kill their children You slaughter their men Your media constantly demonizes them And you expect no retaliation?? You know what?... The terrorism maybe Islamic, But KARMA is a very Indic, very Sanatana Dharma concept Go chew on that!
We went to the college after the post in social media came to our notice. Already, the lady admitted that she had made the post. Now interrogation is under way and no case has been registered so far, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Rosie Kalita told The Assam Tribune.
In-charge principal Bhattacharjee while explaining the ground for suspension order of the teacher who has been working there for seven years, said, We dont support such statements in social media. So many soldiers died in that incident. It was her personal statement, but as the matter is related to national sentiment, our governing body has decided to suspend her. Further decision on the order will be taken based on the police report and action.
The Assam Tribune tried to contact Papri Banerjee for her reaction/comment, but to no avail.
