DIBRUGARH, Jan 7 - A former journalist and a faculty member of DHS Kanoi Commerce College here, Nabajyoti Kumar has been named among the top ten exemplary persons of the State for the year 2015 by a well-known tourism website of the North-Eastern region, www.bijitdutta.com.
The website, which started publishing such a list from 2014 onwards, has been able to record its presence even in the UNWTO website, the website of the United Nations� World Tourism Organisation.
Nabajyoti Kumar has been enlisted by the website basically for creating media awareness among the masses through his brainchild, SI Foundation for Media & Social Welfare, Asom (SIFMSWA), a voluntary organisation headquartered in Jorhat.
Through the SIFMSWA, Nabajyoti has been organising meetings among scribes and members of the public, distributing media-related leaflets, arranging scribes� tours to different problem-prone areas, satras as well as dwelling places of ethnic people and honouring veteran scribes, besides holding media-related talks for schoolchildren. Through his organization, he even organized a �mass-media awareness fortnight� in 2010, perhaps the first of its kind in the North-Eastern region.
Durlabh Borah, the man behind Uttaran Museum, Sivasagar, Evelyntice Sajem, social activist of Jatinga, Dr Imran Hussain, a farmers� friend, Jeevan Saikia, hotel entrepreneur, Manika Goswami, sportsperson, Ranjan Kumar Baruah, Forest officer, Dr Sanjeev Borkakoti, campaigner of Sankardeva�s ideology, Sayera Rohman, founder of Prerona, an institution for specially abled children, and Victor Banerjee, distinguished actor and the patron of Moran Blind School, have also been named in the list.
