Collection of essays on Zubeen Garg released

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 23 - Zubeen Garg: Shristi Bitarka Prayojaniyata, a collection of essays on popular musician Zubeen Garg, was today released by noted writer Phanindra Kumar Devchoudhury. Edited by Dr Padmapani, the book is published by Olympia Prakashan.

Releasing the book, Devchoudhury said, We grew up listening to the songs composed by Dr Bhupen Hazarika. But somehow, even our generation got swayed by the sheer talent of Zubeen and depth of his composition.

Unfortunately, although there are debates on his public behaviour and his antics, seldom would you find anyone critically analysing his work, he said.

We want Zubeen to reflect our hopes and aspirations. His outspoken nature and genuineness set him apart. However, he must understand that with independence comes responsibility. At some point of time, he would have to self introspect, Devchoudhury said, adding, an artiste like Zubeen Garg is like a pendulum that constantly swings between reality and fantasy.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Padmapani Mahanta said he has selected the essays carefully keeping in view the content and the intent.

The 40-page book comprises essays penned by writers from diverse age groups, said Dr Mahanta, who is considered as one of the authorities of forensic science in India.

We all love Zubeen Garg and the essays selected reflect peoples expectations from Zubeen, which sometimes may come through constructive criticism, he said.

The book release function was attended by Zubeen Gargs father and writer Kapil Thakur, writer Loknath Goswami, former judge of Gauhati High Court Anima Hazarika and former bureaucrat Dhirendra Nath Saikia.
