SILCHAR, July 6 - In an interesting twist to the tale of coal scam in Barak Valley which led to the arrest of five bureaucrats recently, Karimganj Police nabbed Abdul Ahad, the alleged kingpin of the scam.
Sources said that Ahad was arrested in Case No. 889/16 under Section 406/420 of the IPC. Police informed that Ahad had kept a plot of land as bank mortgage and gave the same plot of land on lease to another party to extract money from the land.
Fertilizer seized, 4 held: In the meantime, at least four persons were arrested and three trucks loaded with fertilizer were seized from Lailapur along the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district today.
Based on secret inputs, DSP (Headquarter) AJ Baruah gave chase to the trucks and arrested the foulplayers.
Sources said that such illegal trespassing of trucks loaded with fertilizer is a routine feature along the inter-State border.
