CMs intervention sought

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 1 - Founder president of All Cachar Karimganj Students Association Pradip Dutta Roy has drawn the attention of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on the rising instances of harassment meted out to the people travelling to or through Meghalaya and Manipur with demands to show their NRC-related papers and sought his intervention in this regard.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Dutta Roy said, At a time when only the draft NRC has been published, there is no way that people of Assam travelling to the neighboring states should face harassment and humiliation. I urge upon the Chief Minister to look into the matter with priority.

On the other hand, Dutta Roy criticized the comments made by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee that the NRC process was done in the state to earn political gains will create a divide among the people and might also lead to a state of unrest in the state. It is because of the West Bengal CM that people in Assam could not find themselves on the draft NRC. Hence she should refrain from passing such comments which might disturb peace and harmony in the state, the student leader said.
