CM�s Gyanjyoti event begins

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 � A three-day event to mark the Chief Minister�s Gyanjyoti scheme got off to a start at the Sarusajai Stadium here today.

Over 1,100 students, along with teachers, doctors and nurses, from 14 districts across Assam are participating in the event. The event was inaugurated by Subhash Chandra Das, Additional Chief Secretary (Education).

In his inaugural speech, Das said the event provides a unique opportunity to school children to gain insight into latest developments in various fields and also visit centres of learning and higher educational institutions in the city.

He hoped that the event will also lead to exchange of ideas among students from various districts. Das said the competitive spirit and knowledge of the children will grow by participating in various activities planned over the three days.

Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, spoke about the event.

As part of the event, the participants will be taken for visits to the Guwahati Planetarium, Assam State Zoo, State Museum, IIT Guwahati, State Secretariat, Accoland, Raj Bhavan and the Science Museum, among other places.

The Kamrup Metro district administration will organize a special quiz competition during the three-day event.

The quiz event titled �Moromor Asom��will be based on Assam�s geography, history, economy, society and culture, diversity, communities and ethnic groups, languages and dialects and so on.

The quiz competition would be held on the afternoon of November 2, the second day of the event. Two students from each district will be able participate it in.

The administration will give special prizes for each correct answer by the contestants, added the statement.��

A cultural evening will be held on November 3. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will also interact with the students on the final day of the event.

Dance recital

GUWAHATI, Nov 1 � Kannamayee Kala Nikatan, a leading dance academy of Tezpur, is organising a dance recital on the songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on November 8, sources said.
