CM�s directive to DCs on ancient monuments

GUWAHATI, Jan 28 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has directed the Deputy Commissioners to do their best to preserve the ancient monuments of Assam including the Karenghar, Rang Ghar and Talatal Ghar at Sivasagar besides providing beautiful looks to the temples spread across the length and breadth of the State.

Gogoi, who was replying to a memorandum submitted to him by a three-member delegation of the Assam Senior Citizens� Association on Sunday at his residence, said that the archeological department had been displaying indifferent attitude in respect of proper maintenance of the ancient monuments in the State and that the Central department did not allow the State government to do any improvement work in the area specifically under the supervision of the archeological survey.

The delegation led by DN Chakravartty president of the Association included PK Mahanta and Jagat Chandra Bora.

The Chief Minister also agreed to the request of the Association for granting concession to elderly persons for travelling in State transport buses and directed the minister of transport to grant 50 percent concession immediately. He also assured the Association that the social welfare department would constantly keep liaison with the senior citizen association in the matter of identification of the genuineness of beneficiaries for old age pension.
