CMERTI gets ISO certificate

TEOK, Nov 24 � The Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute (CMERTI) based at Lahdoigarh in Jorhat district under the Central Silk Board, was assessed by M/s TNV Certification Pvt. Ltd., for Quality Management System on November 12, 2013 and awarded ISO 9001:2008 Certificate, stated a press release issued by its director Dr K Giridhar.

The institute has been successfully undertaking the entire gamut of R&D activities to cater to the needs of the on-farm and post-cocoon sector of muga and eri sericulture. Muga and eri culture is a rural industry in the Northeast and parts of West Bengal.

Recently, the institute developed several new technologies in the field of muga and eri culture. High yielding new breed of eri silkworm �C-2�, �Lahdoi� � a formulation to control muscardine disease of muga silkworm, muga silkplus for better silk recovery, improved bani machine for muga reeling, low cost muga cocoon dryer are certain remarkable examples in this aspect.

The institute has also taken up research to develop high yielding muga silkworm breed and other different aspects of muga and eri culture.
