GUWAHATI, March 7 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Centre will do well to stick to the special category status for Assam so that the pace of development in the State is not affected.
Gogoi said that despite the Centres indifferent attitude, his government will continue to take forward the development works on its own in all sectors.
Replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the Governors address, Gogoi said, We will have to be given the special category status so that we can catch up with the developed ones on all fronts.
Steps like suspension of NEIIPP and delay in release of funds will also affect the States development.
Giving an account of his governments achievements, he said Assams gross state domestic product and the per capita income have improved significantly since 2011.
The Human Development Index too has improved although there still remains a lot to be done, Gogoi said. Our GSDP growth rate is even higher than the national average. From 1.51 per cent growth rate in 2001, it has risen to 6.88 per cent in 2013-14. The per capita income too has improved since 2011, although it remains below the national average, he said.
