CM visits flood-hit Gahinpara, assures repair of breached road, dyke

PATACHARKUCHI, July 20 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Ranjit Kumar Das, Ex-Speaker of Assam Assembly, Pabindra Deka, MLA, Patacharkuchi LAC and higher officials of the Barpeta district administration today visited the flood-affected area of Gahinpara under Bajali subdivation and gave an assurance to repair the Kardoiguri-Bamakhata PWD road and the breached embankment near �Doloi Goshai Than�.

It may be mentioned that in the recent floods, the Pahumara river had washed away the embankment, damaged the said road and inundated a large area of Bajali subdivision. Briefing local mediapersons, Sonowal also refuted the allegations of the opposition party that the present government has failed to supply relief materials to the flood-affected area properly. He said that floods and flood relief is a serious matter and the issued should not criticised for the sake of criticism only. He also said that he had asked deputy commissioners all over the State and other officials to supply relief materials and to ensure proper quality of the supplied materials. The deputy commissioners have been asked to look after the affected people.

Addressing the people gathered on the occasion, he said that the Central government under the leadership of Narendra Modi had already formed one strong national-level committee christened �North East Management Authority� to solve the problems of erosion, flood and landslides, considered as major problems of the North-east area. The committee was formed in 2017 and has prepared project reports scientifically to solve the serious problem.

The Chief Minister also asked mediapersons to point out any irregularities so that remedial measures could be taken up immediately.
