CM visits erosion-hit Gohpur

BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 11 - Chief Minister Sarvananda Sonowal visited the erosion-hit areas in the Gohpur sub-division of Biswanath distcrict in the afternoon today. He visited badly affected Buroighat on the bank of river Buroi under Halem Revenue Circle and Chatrang at Gohpur.

The Chief Minister assured all possible help to the affected people who had lost their land and properties in the ongoing erosions of the rivers Buroi and Chatrang. He also said that he had instructed the concerned departments to take quick action in this respect. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for Water Resources, Keshav Mahanta, Minister for Handloom and Textile, Ranjit Dutta, Gohpur MLA Utpal Borah and others.

It may be recalled that Buroi river under Gohpur sub-division in Biswanath district eroded a huge stretch . Several areas, including Buroighat, Pachim Takoubari, Nanke Bihmari and Baligaon were badly affected. According to the people living in the areas, several hectares of paddy crops were also destroyed.

An official release informed that the Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to the family members of Dipankar Bora, who died from drowning.
