CM visits erosion-hit Bhuragaon

MORIGAON, May 29 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi conducted an on-the-spot survey of flood and erosion damages caused by the Brahmaputra at Bhuragaon in Morigaon district on May 28.

While talking to this newspersons, Gogoi said that the State government has proposed to hold an international seminar on flood and erosion problems of Assam where the suggestions from international experts on the problems will be accepted.

He said that a package of Rs 190 crore to tame the erosion problems of the mighty river in Morigaon district will be endorsed by the Central government. The Chief Minister will apprise the matter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for the intervention in this regard.

It may be mentioned here the very existence of Morigaon district has been threatened by the Brahmaputra erosion. More than 100 revenue villages have been submerged into the mighty river due to erosion in Bhuragaon revenue circle.
