GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the Assam Cricket Association�s cricket stadium at Barsapara here which will host the India-Australia T20 International on October 10.
Testing the wicket by having some batting on it, Sonowal expressed satisfaction over the arrangements and hoped that the city T20 would be organised successfully.
Accompanied by Sports Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Director of Sports Pabitra Ram Khound, ACA vice president Debajit Saikia and secretary Pradip Buragohain, the Chief Minister took stock of the ground condition, wicket, pavilion, gallery, dressing room, commentary box, media stand and other ancillaries.
The over 40,000 capacity stadium a state-of-the-art drainage and rain will hardly be a cause of concern while hosting a match.
But the approach roads need drastic repairing works as a capacity crowd is expected for the match which will be the maiden T20I in the city and the newly built stadium will have its first experience of organising any international cricket match. The organisers have to concentrate on the entrance and exit passages of the stadium in order to avoid any mishap.
Sonowal asked ACA officials to leave no stone unturned for holding the match successfully and set a precedent. He also assured the ACA of all assistance from the government.
The Chief Minister also said that there will be fool-proof security arrangements for the match and no laxity will be allowed from any quarter to creep in.
