By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 29 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the Saraighat rail-cum-road bridge to take stock of the ongoing repair work and asked the authorities of Railways to complete the works within June 20.

He asked the Railways to engage manpower in three shifts and complete casting work of the bridge within May 15.

The Saraighat bridge is a lifeline in terms of connectivity for the people of the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra. It is very important to complete the repairing at the earliest to ensure hassle-free traffic movement between both the river banks, Sonowal said.

General Manager of the Northeast Frontier Railway Sanjive Roy informed the Chief Minister that it is for the first time that a major repair work of this scale has been taken up since the inauguration of the bridge in 1963.

He assured the Chief Minister to complete the works within June 20.
