DOOMDOOMA, Jan 31: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged the people of the State to draw inspiration from Swargadeo Chaoulung Siu-Ka-Pha’s ideals and work for taking Assam to new heights.

Addressing the open session of the Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs and the Tinsukia district administration at the Sadiya Govt HS School ground today, Sonowal recalled the contributions of Siu-Ka-Pha in creating a greater Assamese nation.

He also recalled the valour of Lachit Borphukan and urged the new generation to imbibe his ideals.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister presented awards to the winners of the ‘Swadesh Adhyayan Quiz’ organised by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and unveiled a souvenir published on this occasion.

He also participated in the traditional rituals of the Me- Dam-Me-Phi celebration.

In his address, Sadiya MLA and president of the organising committee Bolin Chetia expressed satisfaction over the celebration of various festivals of different communities of the State by the government.

Earlier, Director of Cultural Affairs Jadab Saikia delivered the welcome address.

Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Minister of State for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare Sanjay Kishan, Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Sonari MLA Nabanita Handique, CEM of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Dipu Ranjan Markari, president of Purvanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha Pushpadhar Saikia and others attended the programme.
