By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, June 20 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be on a visit to Barak Valley on June 23 to take stock of the flood situation and the damages caused due to severe inundation. This was informed by Minister of Forest, Fisheries and Excise Parimal Suklabaidya on Wednesday.

He said that the ministers and MLAs have been asked to get closer to the people who have lost their property during flood.

Further, Suklabaidya informed that around 7 lakh people have been affected by flood across Barak Valley. As per statistics available, 2.36 lakh people have been affected by flood in Karimganj followed by 3.24 lakh in Hailakandi and more than 1.5 lakh people in Cachar. The minister informed that of the 10 persons who lost lives in Cachar district due to flood, families of seven deceased persons have been given the ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each. Three more bodies are yet to be traced and recovered.

On the other hand, Suklabaidya slammed the Congress party and former Minister Rockybul Hussain and Silchar MP Sushmita Dev in particular for raising questions on the BJP-led Government saying the Congress leaders were not seen during the flood situation and have jumped now to hog the limelight and confuse people with wrong information against the Government after the flood situation was formidably restored.
