CM to inaugurate Nalbari Raas festival

NALBARI, Oct 30 - With the full moon night of autumn round the corner, preparations are on to celebrate the 83rd Raas festival of Nalbari Hari Mandir, a famous religious and cultural event of the North- East to be held from November 14 to 26 with a 13-day programme.

A celebration committee has been formed to celebrate the festival. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the 83rd Raas festival of Sri Sri Hari Mandir on November14. Earlier, the Chief Minister will be brought to the Hari Mandir premises with a colorful cultural procession from Nalbari Inspection bungalow. In the inaugural meeting Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State for Railways, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industries and Transport, Ghanashyam Nath, Deka Satradhikar of Barpeta Satra and Dr Rita Choudhury, renowned literatteur will grace the occasion among others.

In the 13-day Raas festival for the first time, a book fair will be held from November 15. On the other hand, coinciding with the Raas festival, a State-level nagara naam competition will also be held. Cash prizes of Rs 40,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 15,000 will be given to the three best groups. Two consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each will also be given.

On the closing night on November 26 a cultural programme will be held where singer Zubeen Garg will take part. Minister of Health and Education, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will also be present on the occasion.
