CM to attend World Environment Day function

SILCHAR, May 30 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will grace the Central function to be organised by the State Government in Silchar on June 5 to celebrate the World Environment Day.

This was informed by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri on Thursday. Talking to mediapersons at her conference Hall, Madduri said, "Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya will grace the occsssion. Also, as many as one million saplings will be planted within a period of one month which will be a drive against air pollution."

She added that geo tagging of the saplings will be done to maintain proper vigil and observe growth of the saplings. Various government departments, organisations and NGOs both in the urban and rural areas are being contacted to join the initiative.

On the other hand, Cachar DFO Sunny Deo Choudhury informed that as a part of the celebrations, a day-long programme will be held at the Police Parade ground wherein apart from science exhibition by school students, various stalls would be set up with nature- based products like bamboo, wood, etc.
