CM to accept Mizo Home Ministers resignation

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Sept 16 - Mizoram Chief minister Lal Thanhawla, who is currently in Lunglei town, said on Saturday that he has but to accept Home Minister R Lalzirlianas resignation.

Talking to reporters in Lunglei yesterday, Lal Thanhawla said he had no other choice than to accept the Home Ministers resignation.

What other choice do I have if a grown-up man makes his decision and offer to resign. Yes, I will accept it, he said. He added that he was yet to receive the resignation letter.

Lalzirliana, one of the senior-most member of Lal Thanhawla Cabinet tendered his resignation on Friday, citing the non-implementation of Saitual district as the reason. He has been elected for four consecutive terms on Congress ticket from Saitual constituency, now known as Tawi constituency after delimitation of Assembly constituencies.

Lalthanhawla, also the State Congress president, while addressing party workers at Lunglei district Congress office, scoffed at Lalzirlianas reason for wanting to resign from the Cabinet. I am truly amazed that our vice president and senior Cabinet member is making a fuss about a certain district, he said.

In a tirade against the then Mizo National Front government that announced three new districts Saitual, Hnahthial and Khawzawl a few months before the 2008 elections, the five-time Chief Minister said, New districts cannot be created just by words. It has financial implication, boundary demarcation, etc. The MNF government created three new districts, upgraded over 400 schools and established a number of police battalions which caused a big financial burden. Even though all these were aimed at elections, the MNF was voted out of power.
