CM stresses need to conserve State forest cover

MORIGAON, Oct 3 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday stressed the need for conservation of rich flora and fauna of Assam. Addressing a huge public meeting held at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday organised by the Assam Forest and Environment department as part of the ongoing Wildlife Week, Sonowal said that although it was challenging, yet it was the need of the hour to conserve the forest cover of the State for ecological balance.

Referring to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government�s policy for conservation of water and forest resources, Chief Minister Sonowal said the forest cover of Assam was God�s gift and the people of Assam must conserve it for the better future of the State.

He further said that all national parks and wildlife sanctuaries of Assam will be given special care and protection so that they may become important tourist spots of the country.

The Chief Minister, with reference to Mahatma Gandhi�s dream of a Swachh Bharat, appealed to the people to bid farewell to all kinds of plastics and use traditional utensils made with forest resources.

In the awareness meeting, Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Panchayat Minister Naba Doley, Minister of State for Health Pijush Hazarika, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Jayanta Malla Boruah, and Assam Fishery Development Corporation Chairman Rama Kanta Deori also spoke on the occasion.
